J 024 Military Cuff Links
This is a pair of military cuff links.
Each cuff link has a crown and lion over crossed swords suggesting a unit of the British army. The two parts are connected together with a small chain.
The enamel on the front is free from serious damage but has a few fine scratches commensurate with age and use.
We are not sure of the type of base metal but it maybe pinchbeck. The items are not stamped so a gold plated item is unlikely.
Each cuff link measures 20 mm by 12 mm with a chain approx 25 mm long, and the set weighs in at 12.9 gram
Clearly a used item, but never-the-less an item that can still be used.
Note
Pinchbeck is a gold coloured brass, invented by Christopher Pinchbeck, a watchmaker of Fleet Street, London, in 1725. Probably made by melting copper and imported spelter (zinc). Later the term was widely used for all gold coloured brasses, and became a synonym for any cheap imitation.
