Loving their gadgets, the Victorian's had neat little extending toasting forks which could then be hung up on the fire place. By the early part of the 1900´s, manufacturers were using wire - some with great cream and green handles.
As gas and electricity replaced solid fuel ranges, the humble toasting fork was left in the back of the drawer.
Toasting forks came in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from the simple to the ornate, two or three prongs, long or short handles, expensive or cheap materials. Many of the toasting forks available today are vintage brass souvenir forks with a character finial at the top of the handle. Today toasting forks are available for use with a wood burning stove.
With more and more people having real fires, toasting forks have seen a revival.
