There is a full British hallmark on both items from the Chester assay office with the assay mark for sterling silver a date letter for 1909 and the maker mark V&J. We believe this is the mark for Villiers & Jackson, a Birmingham based silversmith.
The case measures around 45 mm long and 10 mm in diameter at the lid end, and has a ring at the opposite end for attaching to a chain.
The container is free of dents, dings and knocks and is in excellent condition.
With the current restrictions on smoking and the Chester assay office closing during August 1962, these items are fast becoming a hot collector area.
