This is a case for a cheroot holder. The end pulls off to gain access to the plastic cheroot holder contained in the inside, and by gently tapping the tapered container, the plastic cheroot holder is released and slides out of the case.
There is a full British hallmark from the Birmingham assay office with a date letter for 1942 the assay mark for sterling silver and the maker mark FW.
The case measures around 45 mm long and 10 mm in diameter at the lid end, and has a ring at the opposite end for attaching to a chain.
This item has been used and sports a ding or two but nothing unwisely, to show that it is a genuine used item.
With the current restrictions on smoking, these items are fast becoming a hot collector area.
